What to Watch: iZombie

I’m not one to love the zombie trend. I’m not a big fan of horror movies or The Walking Dead, but something about iZombie caught my eye. How could a show revolve around a girl that is part human/part zombie? I was hesitant when I heard the plot summary, but still decided to give it a try – and I was not disappointed.

Especially with this badass intro that plays homage the comic:

iZombie tells the story of Liv Moore (Rose McIver), a doctor that goes to the wrong party and wakes up a zombie. She quickly learns she needs to eat brains to remain herself, so she takes a job in a morgue for easy access to brains from the dead bodies that roll through the door. Now I know this can sound disgusting – and eating brains is – but, it is done with a quirky humor that can be found throughout the entire show. Soon enough her boss Ravi (Rahul Kohli) finds out about her condition, but rather then freak out like any normal person would, he befriends her and decides to take on the task of finding a cure.

Without giving too much away, iZombie focuses on Liv’s ability to see visions from the brains she eats, and how she uses them to help the local police department solve crimes. Think of iZombie as a cross between The Walking Dead and Psych. The whole show is done in a way that keeps you guessing who will figure out about Liv’s “condition”, while laughing through her awkwardness at the same time. One of the best parts of the show is that Liv takes on characteristics from the people’s brains she eats.

Check out the cast discussing Liv’s new personalities below:

Overall I highly recommend iZombie. It’s funny, charming and the characters will make you come back every week excited to see what happens next. So, how many Liv’s do you think we’ll see at Halloween this year? Count me in, I’m already getting my costume ready.
